Wheel Balancing Springwood NSW 2777

Correctly balanced wheels help to eliminate vibration and avoid premature wear caused by an imbalance in the rotating wheel and tyre assembly.

The first sign that your wheels may be out of balance is when your steering wheel starts to wobble and vibrate above a certain speed.

What is Wheel Balancing?

The simple explanation of wheel balancing refers to spots on the wheel and/or tyre that are heavier than the rest of the wheel. After fitting a tyre to a wheel the tyre technician uses a wheel balancing machine to identify the heavy areas on the tyre andWheel Balancing Machine wheel then places a lead weight on the side of the wheel opposite to the heavier spot, to balance out the weight and in turn eliminating vibration.

The wheel balancing machine rotates the tyre and wheel assembly and automatically calculates the weight and location of the balance counter weight.

When a car’s wheels are correctly balanced they will rotate without vibration.

Quite often though the wheel/tyre assemblies on a vehicle may be in balance but you can still feel a vibration.

Wheel Balancing should be done whenever a new tyre is fitted or whenever a tyre is removed from the rim and refitted.

Here are some of the other causes of vibration:

•Bent wheel
•Tire out of round (radial or lateral runout)
•Wheel-to-axle mounting error
•Inconsistent tire sidewall stiffness (force variation)
•Brake component wear or failure
•Drive train or engine component wear or failure
•Suspension wear or failure
•Wheel bearing wear or failure
•Wheel alignment is out

Springwood Tyre Service can isolate many of these problems for you, and there is no question that determining whether the tyre/wheel assemblies are good and in balance is the first place to start.
